Supercharge your energy!

To rest is to cease work or movement in order to relax, sleep, or recover strength.

We all have one life, two hands and one heart to offer to this world. We offer ourselves through our jobs. Some people work shorter weeks, others work longer ones. By that I mean the hours they work in a week. In Britain, workers are allowed to work forty hours a week. Although people work up to 60 hours a week, I don’t know how they do that, one is not allowed to work more than forty eight hours a week, though people still do. It’s their choice and it’s ok. The average hours one can work is 48hrs a week. This is especially important for institutions, according to the ‘working time directive’. If you’re self employed, you can work the 168 hrs. of the week if you can, and if that were possible.

After working all week, the body gets tired. You will need time to rest and recover. When you keep going and deny the body the rest it requires, it will get fatigued. Tiredness is different from fatigue. When you feel tired and you get some rest, your energy is restored. But when you’re fatigued, you feel constantly tired no matter how much rest you have. Fatigue can be caused by being burnt out at work, or some serious medical conditions like depression and anxiety, some medications, our life style and many other habits. If you have medical issues and are fatigued, please see your doctor.

Changing one little thing in your life may just help you to supercharge your energy. You could change your lifestyle including the food that you eat. Some habits like smoking cause human blood vessels to thicken and make it difficult for blood to flow through one’s veins. This increases blood pressure because blood has to force its way through the thickened veins. This poses a risk of developing heart problems. With thickened vessels, the heart has to pump twice as hard to help the blood to flow. There’s also a danger of blood vessels in the brain enlarging because they are weak. This may cause an enlargement of the brain vessels which may lead to them rapturing due to increased pressure thereby causing a stroke.

The increased heart activity causes one to feel tired. Normal rest will not help matters. See the the doctor for tests to check your health.

If the tiredness is caused by over working the body, rest is an answer. Every now and again, I like to take a no activity day where I just sit the whole day doing nothing apart from eating healthy and exercising and resting.

It is okay to rest!

Have enough sleep at night. Avoid napping during the day so you can be sleep ready for the night. Having enough rest is one thing that will have the cells of your body restored.

Stick to an exercise routine. Exercise makes the muscles stronger. It’s not what type of exercise you do that matters but consistency does matter.

It has been suggested by some research that as little as 20 minutes of low-to-moderate aerobic activity, three days a week, can help even sedentary people feel more energized. If exercise is done consistently, it can boost energy levels by raising energy-promoting neurotransmitters in the brain, such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. This is why you feel so good after a workout.

Eating frequent small healthy meals helps with energy production in the body. When you have an issue of lacking energy or tiredness, it's advisable to eat small meals and snacks every few hours than three large meals a day, according to Dr. Komaroff. “Your brain has very few energy reserves of its own and needs a steady supply of nutrients," he says. "Also, large meals cause insulin levels to spike, which then drops your blood sugar rapidly, causing the sensation of fatigue and sleepiness."

A weakened immune system can also contribute to a feeling of tiredness. Stress at work can contribute to a weakened immune system especially if your eating habits at work are bad. If it gets stressful at work, I support my immunity with some healthy shakes and soups and fruit bars to bridge the gap between what I should eat and what I have eaten.
